  1. Welcome to Faces of Papua New Guinea for the Macintosh and IBM
  2. PC compatibles.
  3.  
  4. Macintosh to run:
  5. Double click on "Faces of Papua New Guinea" icon to start.
  6. Click on the category Introduction, Geography, etc.
  7. Click on the "Menu" button to return to the start.
  8.

  11. To install (WINDOWS) Only
  12. 1.      Start Windows.
  13.  
  14. 2.      In the Program Manager or File Manager, click on the "FILE" 
  15.          menu option.
  16.  
  17. 3.      Click on the "RUN" menu option.
  18.  
  19. 4.      In the "Command Line Box" type the following:
  20.         
  21.         "The CD-ROM Drive Letter":\install.exe
  22.         (or double click on the install.exe program)
  23.

  25. This will create a program group with eight icons in the Program 
  26. Manager.  No files will be copied and very little hard disk space is 
  27. required (10 k or less!)

  30. WELCOME TO FACES OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA!
  31. Below you'll find some recommendations and information to help you get 
  32. the most from this disc.
  33. * We highly recommend that you adjust your color monitor setting to 
  34.   the highest quality available: use 16-bit or 24-bit color if it is available. 
  35. * If you decide to play this material from a hard disk rather than directly 
  36.   from the CD ROM, please be sure that the MacroMind Player is set to at 
  37.   least 2048K. You can increase the setting (the amount of memory available to 
  38.   the Player), in the [Get Info] window on your Macintosh.
  39. * Use the Sound Control Panel to adjust the sound level of the field recordings 
  40.   and lectures that we have included here for your enjoyment. The sound track will 
  41.   probably be at its best with a low volume setting on most systems.

  43. How we put this together : Browser design
  44. Most people like to browse through a project like this, enjoying the 
  45. pictures and reading only a bit of text here and there. For them we've made it 
  46. as easy as possible, allowing many people to simply enjoy this disc. 
  47. * Just click on the Faces of Papua New Guinea icon to run the program.
  48. From the main menu, click on a topic you wish to read about. You can click 
  49. the red arrow/dot on the lower corners of each page to browse forward and 
  50. backward through the pages of the topic sections. You can return to the 
  51. main menu from the first page of each topic. If you are uncertain how to proceed, 
  52. click on the [help] button on the menu for some assistance.

  54. The text has been broken down into small coherent segments and enhanced with 
  55. pictures that illustrate the points  being made. The images used to illustrate 
  56. the texts are either miniature versions of the whole pictures or poignant fragments, 
  57. whichever best illustrates the salient points in the texts.

  59. Where the complete picture slide shows are located:
  60. All the pictures available on this CD ROM can be viewed in the slide shows. 
  61. Choose a the topic in the main menu and then click on the slide show button on 
  62. the first page of each topic section. The slide show will play all available 
  63. pictures that are filed under that subject heading and then stop. Or you can use 
  64. the [PlayAllQTs] file for viewing just the pictures.

  67. To facilitate studying this original research material the complete text is 
  68. also available in standard word processor file formats from which they can 
  69. be printed out to hard copy.

  74.   anthropology, environmental studies, ethnic studies, geography, related sciences, 
  75.   and humanities.
